The Extraction Veins: On Image Error and Metabolic Displacement 】

Grapes embody a collective of shared destiny. Through performance, video, and installation, this work explores how capitalist structures intervene and sever the primal link between humans and the land. The organic unity of "land, producer, and fruit" has collapsed under contemporary structures; the natural cycles of the earth are precisely sliced by capital into multiple "consumption segments."
The performance unfolds across spaces separated by mesh. Inside, the artist spreads a tablecloth, puts on gloves, and removes large, luscious grapes from jars—treating them like boutique luxury goods—counting and arranging them to demonstrate how life is standardized into priced commodities. Transparent tubes, acting as extended veins, wrap around the artist’s neck and limbs, channeling juice to the outside for the audience to drink. This is a violent demonstration of "extraction": live video projection beautifies the labor into an elegant visual illusion. However, when the audience actually drinks the liquid, the "error" between the imagined image and physical sensation is revealed—exposing how contemporary consumption is built upon the cruel foundation of "extracting others' bodies" and land resources.

The inspiration stems from the artist's observations during travels: in the globalized export market, those who toil on the land are often unable to afford the fruits of their own labor; the earth's nourishment is alienated into abstract prices rather than physical experience. Through spatial division and live projection, the "image error" reveals the truth of modern consumption: while admiring the image, we are simultaneously participating in the extraction of another's body and land.
Finally, the artist consumes the fruit, attempting to reclaim unity with the land. Yet, this act simultaneously reveals a stark reality—under the manipulation of capital and imagery, the land, the producer, and the consumer have all become mere components in an endless cycle of consumption. In this system, the land, the artist, and the audience are all alienated into fragments of a supply chain, caught together in a collective extraction of life essence packaged by digital aesthetics.
