'Regarding the issue of 'value,' I began with the mine of Jinguashi. Something I’ve been pondering is: what compels people to start digging into mountains? From building the factory to all the subsequent construction...?

As part of my performance piece, I carried a basket of charcoal to the Alchemy Pavilion square. I then began to ask the audience, 'What is value?' while placing the charcoal into my body until it was full. In front of me were tools like scissors and hammers, inviting the audience to come forward and chisel and extract from my body. They could use the charcoal they extracted to write on a white cloth about what is important and valuable to them. In this work, I used my body as a medium, allowing the audience to consciously experience and touch the relationship between their own lives and the environment during the participation process.'
